The professional football player is currently receiving treatment at Bellevue Hospital, where he remains in "critical but stable condition."
The shooting took place shortly after 2 a.m. local time (0700GMT) near Seventh Avenue, as reported by law enforcement officials.
Authorities indicated that Boyd was shot in the abdomen outside a restaurant following a confrontation that escalated into violence.
"The gunman fired two shots," sources told the media outlet.
Boyd reportedly lost consciousness prior to being rushed to the hospital for medical attention.
The New York Jets acknowledged that Boyd was "involved in the shooting" but did not provide additional details.
Sources noted that the suspect fled the scene immediately, and another vehicle was observed leaving the area shortly after the shots were fired.
Officials mentioned that witnesses were largely "uncooperative" with the police investigation.
No arrests have been made so far, and the shooting continues to be actively investigated by authorities.
